Shower of the Century

First, let me apologize for what might be my longest post ever. I am super excited to show you all the details from my sister's baby shower. Allison had tons of guests, got so many great gifts and had family from three states (I will admit I am counting Oklahoma), but doesn't that sound VERY dramatic?

Also, doesn't she look great for only being 6 weeks from her due date? (My sister-in-law, Kristen, whose house this was at is on the left and I am on the right.)

I was not kidding when I said she got tons of gifts.

Okay, let's talk details! Kristen's house is so open and her dining room opens to the living room where all the gifts were. We just used card tables and I covered them with white linens that I got at a restaurant supply store online. I think I only paid $11 for each one. I figured I can use them again and again.

To dress up the chairs I just used bulk floral ribbon. I think I got literally 800 feet for $20. I also used it as the runners on the tables.

My mom and I had so much fun making the centerpieces. We seriously were little crafters for weeks. Just so you know - I am so not crafty. These were super easy and pretty much came assembled. I will post pics of the process later this week.

As guests came in they were greeted with Finley's initials and our favors. In case this is your first time to my blog, the baby's room is bird themed.

Close up of the favors. These were an idea from my friend, Iris. They are no bake cookies shaped into little bird's nests.

I had the cupcakes made to look like the invitations. They turned out really cute! The stand is lying in a "nest."

Close up of the birds.

I also made other mini nests with candy "eggs." Look at how my cricut has come in handy!

This savory cheesecake I bought was THE hit of the party. Sounds weird but it is an appetizer cake made of asiago, sharp cheddar, swiss and other cheeses. Serve it with crackers and you have people talking about your food for days. Seriously.

I made little drink menus to match the invites. I will post the actual paper products later, as it is hard to see in this picture. They were super cute in person.

My final cricut project was the infamous banner! The nice thing is that when we made this we didn't know Finley's name. So, now I can get a few more uses out of this baby.

I hope you enjoyed! I get to help with my sister-in-law's shower at the end of September, so hopefully I will have some more fun creations then too!

Shower Part 1

Today was the much blogged about baby shower for my sister! It turned out so cute and I think everyone had a nice time. Minus the fact that I woke up Friday morning at 2:30 a.m. and realized that there is construction blocking the entrance to Kristen's neighborhood. Instead of processing this and sending an email in the morning I had to get up RIGHT THEN and send an email with alternative directions. That would have been great....however, I got my easts and wests confused and I think a few guests got lost. UGH. Everyone made it in the end. I am already directionally challenged. My sleepy state did nothing to help this. Sorry to those of you guys that read this and got lost. I am still feeling awful. However, I must move on. So, I am now officially moving on.

Anyway, Allison got so many cute things! Our friend, Andrea, had sent me a sneak peek yesterday of the most adorable monogrammed items she got her from the store From My Hive to Yours.

More soon. I have to get pictures from my sister. My camera is back in the shop!

Yes, those are all dogs

And I thought I liked to dress up my dogs.

I have nothing on these.

This is a standard poodle cut to look like a buffalo. Can you imagine? Can you imagine that running around in your back yard? Can you imagine what your neighbors would think?!

Seriously you guys, this is not a panda.

I do love the camel.

My mom actually found all of these for me. Thanks mom. I always need inspiration. For the full story click here.

Target Always Surprises

I totally cracked up when I saw this book in Target this week:

Even funnier is that Tommy was with me. He totally gets it now.

Um, how did I not know this? Season 3 of Dexter is out. It is a little graphic (well kind of a lot graphic) but I am huge wuss and still love it. Plot: serial killer who only kills pedophiles, murders and people who get away with crimes. Sounds bad. But it is really so good.

So, my evenings and weekends are about to be full catching up with Dex. I think I read he has a baby this season! Oh, on a pop culture note, Dexter is married in real life to his sister on the show. Even though I know they are not related it still kind of icks me out. Not enough to keep me from watching, though.

Wine & Cheese Pics

The bad news: my camera was still in the shop when I had my little wine & cheese party. The good news: it is now at Best Buy waiting for me to pick it up. So, now my pictures will be a little less, well, crappy.

Before the party I found some ironic wine tags at the Snow Goose in Utica Square. I had to have them. I think they are a fun ice breaker for people who might not know each other. At least you can ask what their wine tag says about them.

We had meats, cheeses, fruit, bruschetta, breads and chocolates. (If you have never been to my house, I can assure you my dining room is not purple. It is more of a red color. You can see it here. Just goes to show how awful the pictures are that my cell phone takes!)

I made my sister-in-law's brie. It is super easy to make. Just get a brie cheese wheel, place it on a crescent roll sheet laid out, cover with jam (in this case I used a white zinfandel jelly), wrap the crescent roll around and bake on 350 for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. My sister-in-law also adds pecans to hers and serves with apples and crackers. Apples just weren't going to happen that night but I know it would be delicious!

Memories from my wedding planning days came rushing back to me when I was thinking about how to let people know what each cheese was. Brides would create the cutest place card holders made from wine corks. And it is a wine and cheese party.

I cannot for the life of me remember which entertaining blog I saw this idea on but I thought it was so cute! Just take some daisies, cut the stem off, insert a toothpick and there you have it - simple and unique toothpicks! To incorporate the theme, I used the daisies tucked into my platters.

I held all the toothpicks in this little container. Once full, it looked like a little flower arrangement.

This weekend is Allison's shower! I am so excited to show you what I have been working on! I will also have better quality pictures since I will finally have my camera back. Here's to hoping my cell phone bill is not atrocious since I have been emailing myself pictures for the past two weeks. That should be included in my unlimited internet/text messaging plan, right? We can only hope.

Guilty Pleasure

I know I am way too old to be watching the Real World but I am still totally watching it. I cannot help it. They have sucked me in for 22 seasons. It is kind of like an old friend. Only it is a TV show. With new characters. But still. These people would never make it without me.

However, this season the girls keep wearing their headbands in the most unusual spot on their head. Have I missed this trend somehow? I am still on the the fence about wearing headbands anyway, so you will never catch me wearing my headband like this. Unless I decide to dress up like a 20 year old for Halloween. But, that is a whole other post.

So, is this in or out? Someone help me.

Sweeping the Nation

As many of you might remember, I have a slight fascination with the Snuggie. Well, my friend Stephanie received an email today and thought of me:

Now we can get one for the whole family so that I don't have to dress my dog up like this:

Apparently, I knew a Snuggie for dogs would be a big hit before the Snuggie even existed. This picture was taken in 2005. I am always a little late to the party.

Thanks, Stephanie, for the great find!

Curiously Strong

Last night I had my wine and cheese party and it was so much fun! I will have pictures later this week. Tonight was my brother-in-law's birthday so I have not had time to email them all to myself (since I am still without my camera). No worries, I will not leave you guys hanging for too long.

For Kyle's birthday we got him a gift card to Lowe's because he is wanting to get a new grill. I wanted to put it in a fun manly packaging. Instead he got it in a gift bag from my wedding.

Well, that got me thinking about the cutest gift card/favor holder I saw recently on someones blog. Of course I didn't bookmark it but I didn't earn the title "master googler" (ahem) for nothing.

The blog, Alpha Mom, highlighted Altoid tins refashioned as little tool boxes!!!
Have you seen anything cuter? Ever? Um, and these are miniature too. Hello cuteness! If you are so inclined to try these yourself, first, I hope you collect Altoids tins (have you ever had good breath that was so expensive)? Second, you can get full instructions here.

Let me apologize to my fan base (all 8 of you). I just was rereading some past posts and I have had some blatant grammatical errors in recent posts. Believe it or not, I actually reread these before posting. Apparently, I don't proof my own work well. Ugh. XOXO. Thanks for reading, errors and all.

A floral before & after

Today I did some prepping for my little wine and cheese party I am going to have on Tuesday. I bought some flowers for the event and I was thinking they looked a little blah, so I wanted to show you guys how quickly (and cheaply) I turned just so-so flowers into a much nicer bouquet!

So, here is the before (this container is also one of my favorite Southern Living at Home items---love it---you can put all of your party silverware in there. So cute!)
And this is the after. Look how much prettier and full the arrangement looks with just a few hosta leaves from my flower bed.
Apparently my phone camera works a bazillion times better under the light in my kitchen. But, here is my little rose arrangment before.
And here it is after. So much better!
More party pics to come. I have a few cute details I am working on for Tuesday night!

Niece or Nephew - That is the question...

Yesterday I spent all working hours waiting and watching the phone wondering when my sister-in-law (see how mature we are above) would call me with the news - Team Pink or Blue for my other darling niece or nephew to be born this year. 5 p.m. rolls around - no calls, no texts, no Facebook messages. I call everyone she knows only to find out Tori has her doctor appointment at 5:30 on a Friday. (Seriously, aren't all doctors required to leave at noon on the weekend? Apparently they don't golf in the afternoons in Nebraska.)

Finally at 6:30 (damn time zone) I get the call I have been waiting for only to find out Baby G is very modest!!!!! The doctor did tell them he thinks there is an 85% chance it is a girl meaning my baby prediction streak is now at 5 correct guesses and 1 incorrect...however, I still have a shot. And, that is what is important here, right?

Is it bad I want to make baby a t-shirt that instead of saying 100% girl it says 85% girl? Tommy told me no. I, however, think it would be hilarious. But, since I am in competition for World's Greatest Aunt with my other sister-in-law I will hold off. I do think Tori would find it funny, as she laughed (alot) when told her I was only 85% excited about the news.

The good news is Tori and Eric will find out 100% what baby is on 9/4. Here's to hoping baby shows his/her stuff, so Aunt Katie can begin shopping!!!!

The crowds have spoken...

A little color it is! Apparently I have been boring you guys for months now. Well, at least 65% of you. Maybe I will keep updating this every so often.

I found the cutest background page from my friend Mo's page who had an Izzie Grace Background. Check out all the backgrounds here. I think I might update this more often.

But, I did this background in honor of baby Finley and her bird themed room. See, I am such a good aunt already!

So, I have got nothing for you guys tonight. I know, I know, how will you guys get through your Friday? We went to the Drillers game tonight and my sister happened to be there, so we left early and went to Target instead. Much better than baseball. I will try to take a picture of the CUTEST clothes we got little Finley. Dwell Studio had this little pink courduroy skirt and a brown and pink cardigan, so baby HAD to have. Oh, and I got her this little polka dot onesie with a little flower embellishment on it with a matching jean skirt and little leggings that went with it. Honestly, girl stuff is so cute. But, I guess with a boy you would not go broke buying teeny tiny pink things.

More exciting stuff later this weekend. Sorry I actually had a life tonight : )!

Trying to Decide

hmmm...trying to decide whether I should just keep this plain or go to a background. Thoughts?

Baby Shower Gift

You guys know I love to make a gift basket. So, of course, I had to make one for Allison's baby shower. Disclaimer - my camera is still with the Geek Squad so my pictures are even more terrible than usual but you get the gist!

Oddly, Allison's "must have" gift was her frog baby bath supply holder. However, it makes a super cute base for the "basket."

I got her lots of swag off her registry...including this boon squirt spoon (orange thing below) where when you are going out to dinner you just put the baby food in the spoon and dispense it from the spoon, instead of having to bring the jars and spoons. Very innovative, imo.

Baby also had to get the cute little tutu, ballet slippers and other goodies. The JJ Cole pacifier pod and bib Allison picked out was super cute too. Oh, and is that bird shirt from target not adorable? Um, yes. She had to have it!

And, here is the finished product...with a slight green tinge to the coloring of the photo. But, there is only so much I can do with a cell phone camera.

Hopefully my camera will be back in commission soon. We have Allison's other baby shower coming up and I have my wine and cheese party next week and I have gotten a couple of cute things I want to show you guys!
