Speeding Ticket or Wedding Dress Dry Cleaned? It's a toss up.

Today I was discussing the fact that I have been married three years and my wedding dress is still sitting in a closet in my house. Never preserved. Never cleaned. I just cannot bring myself to do it. To me it is the monetary equivalent of getting a speeding ticket. I cannot imagine a worse way to spend $100+. Um, yes, I am cheap. Clearly....

So, ladies, here is a poll for you:

I am dying to know.

  1. I have been married for 10 years and my wedding dress, that I paid a small fortune for and had shipped from Europe is STILL in my closet. Actually, it's moved from my closet, to the guest room closet, to now my daugthers closet. :) I spent so much moola, but now I don't want to spend the $100 EITHER!

  2. Oh my gosh Katie I can't believe it's still in your closet...hillarious! I had mine dry cleaned and preserved and it's in a sealed box under my bed. And, so far, on your poll, it looks like I'm the only one! Ha!

  3. Mine is in the guest closet! I'm sure it has sand stains on the bottom, but I never looked. :) There are a million things I would rather spend my money on!!

  4. Funny you should bring this up! I finally had mine done after about 5years of marriage! My mom took it Porters in s'port (you know, the "wedding dress specialists", right?) and we spent the requisite $100+ to have it cleaned, heirloomed, and boxed. Only when she went to pick it up(and it takes about a month for this process), she happened to glance at the front of the box where the peek-a-boo window is and saw SEQUINS! My dress had NO SEQUINS on it! YIKES - they had totally lost my dress and tried to give her some one else's dress! Total snafu....finally the owner came and found my dress 2 days later at the plant...it had not actually been boxed up yet (thank god...can you imagine if it had been sent home with some RANDOM person and lost forever????). Now, whether or not they identified "random sequin dress" or not, we do not know to this day!
My point, be very careful and check your dress when you pick it up thru the tissue paper - make sure you have your dress! You'd hate to find out 20 years down the road when your daughter wants to see it that it wasn't your dress! Can you believe it???? And they didn't even want to discount! love, jennifer

  5. Ha Ha I can't believe you of all people didn't have your dress preserved! Now I don't feel so bad. I keep thinking that I should have had it cleaned and that 4 years later the chocolate is not coming out so why waste the money. I completely agree with you on this topic. Everytime I'm speeding and pass a cop I think to myself dang it that's money I could shop with.

  7. Iris, I cannot believe you can even fit anythingn under your bed! If I crammed one more thing under mine I swear it would start to affect my sleep.

  8. Mine is hanging in a guest closet. I plan to try it on every year around our anniversary and when the fateful day comes that I can no longer fit into it I will preserve it!
