A culinary experience

So a few weeks ago on the Tulsa Food Blog I read a post about Platt College’s Foundation’s Restaurant. The chef and experience sounded fantastic and the price was even better – $23 for a five course meal. (I opted for the smaller – 3 course meal for $17 only because I knew I couldn’t possibly eat that much food.)

We went with our friends Megan and Andy and it was delicious and so fun! It is definitely an “experience” meal where you are there for the evening (about 2 hours), but it was well worth it. The food came quickly and I didn’t feel like there was any downtime where we were waiting. I think it just takes a while to eat 5 courses.

The meal started with an amuse-bouche (thank goodness for Google suggestions). It was a seared ahi tuna over a tomato and asparagus bruschetta. I didn’t have any due to the basically raw meat, but even our non-sushi eater loved it.

Tommy and Megan got the foie gras (on the left) and Andy got the homemade sausages. Tommy also got the scallops, which you can kind of see behind the foie gras. It was delicious – buttery and perfectly cooked.

The next course was salad. Mine was a grilled vegetable salad and Tommy got some other salad (official term) with lamb meat on it.

Between courses we were served The.Most.Amazing palate cleansing sorbet of vanilla, raspberry and champagne. Yum! This was seriously awesome.

We each had a different entrée:

I had squid filled with a shrimp and scallop mousse and couscous. It was delicious.

The meal on the left is Andy’s Beef…I cannot for the life of me remember (I don’t eat red meat), Megan had Pork Tenderloin and Tommy had Ahi Tuna. All had rave reviews.

We also ordered the three desserts on the menu. The left is triple vanilla crème brulee, a tartine with homemade peach ice cream (this was my favorite) and a chocolate foie gras with homemade caramel sauce.

It really was a fun evening and it appears the menu changes often, so I will definitely want to go back when they have a new one!

34 Week Bumpdate

How Far Along: 34 Weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: It was 17 pounds when I was weighed at the hospital when I did my pre-admission. 10 minutes later the doctor weighed me in at 21 pounds. I am going to go with 17. :) The hospital has to be more accurate, right?

Gender: It’s a girl!

Movement: I think the baby loves music! Every time I have on the Black Eyed Peas or LMFAO (I have a very refined tasted in music) she is dancing. That or she really hates what I am listening to!

Sleep: Last night I was up every two hours to go the restroom, but I am able to fall back asleep very easily. Last week I was soooooo tired in the evenings, which I have been lucky enough to avoid thus far.

Maternity Clothes: Basically, all maternity except for dresses and a rare top here or there.

Symptoms: While these aren’t symptoms, they are definitely changes:

1- I think I am going to get an outie belly button.

2- My belly has now totally become a crumb catcher. I mean, honestly, did I spill this much before I was pregnant???

Aversions: No great aversions this week. Shrimp still doesn’t sound too appetizing, but nothing sounds just downright gross.

Cravings: Sweets. I had the cravings table at my shower and I can’t stop thinking about puppy chow!!!

Best Moment this week: I had a super eventful week this week – of course, love hearing the baby’s heart beat. Felt good to check the pre-admission to the hospital off my check list.

Loved, loved, loved the sweet shower that I had!

We got tons done on the baby’s room! I am so thankful for my mom and sister. They helped me out soooo much. My mom helped me hang all of the frames, put her large monogram on the wall, and just did a ton.

My sister completely organized her room! Everything is put away, has a spot and is organized. I have her diaper bag partially packed now and you should see my pantry – now there is plenty of room for her bottles, steamer, etc. It feels so nice to be organized.

Sunday we worked all day on her room (got her curtains dyed too, by the way – thanks to my mother-in-law who steamed them today) and went to Babies R Us, Target, and Buy Buy Baby to finish out all of her essentials. Yay!

Still on my “to-do” list is to get her mattress, need to get in her bedding (which may be mid-September) and wash her things, but I definitely feel like I made a ton of progress!

You are My Sunshine Shower

Today I was lucky enough to have an amazing shower thrown by my sweet friend Iris and my sister-in-law (who unfortunately was under the weather, but was there in spirit, which led to my wonderful mother-in-law and Iris’s mother-in-law stepping in as excellent hostesses)!

The shower was so, so cute! And so funny since it was raining, the theme of You are my Sunshine when Skies are Gray was very fitting.

The printables were just adorable and greeted you at the front door!

Not sure if you can tell (it is probably my great picture taking skillz), but the yellow items on the table are super cute sunshine cookies for favors! Love!

The cookie bouquet that says “Emmy, you are my sunshine.” So cute!

One of my favorite parts – The Katie’s Cravings Table. I overindulged. And have continued to overindulge. You know I love sweets!

sunshine shower 005

The table had cookie cake, lemon squares, puppy chow, s’mores dip (amazing, y’all!), key lime pie and watermelon balls! It was just fabulous and everything was delicious.

I wasn’t diligent in my picture taking, obvs, because I happened to miss the rest of the brunch, which was delicious and included hash brown casserole, an egg casserole and fruit and donut skewers.

My stand-in hostesses and Iris! :) They did an amazing job!

sunshine shower 019

Iris and I live just around the corner from each other and one of the funniest things happened at the shower. She is good friends with her neighbor who also happened to be hosting a baby shower at the same time. We joked about people getting confused.

Well, someone came in that I didn’t recognize, but Tommy’s mom had invited some of her friends (99% of whom I know…), so a woman walked in and immediately recognized one of the guests. I went up and said hi to her and she said she was one of Kristen’s teachers. Well, Kristen is the name of my sister-in-law who was hosting the shower and my mother-in-law is a teacher, so it wasn’t that weird to me.

She asked who I was, so I told her Tommy’s wife. Completely blank stare.

Yeah, she was at the wrong shower. Bless her heart. Ha!

Megan insisted I show the baby bump!

My sister and I. She looked so cute! :)

sunshine shower 014

Megan and my mom. Today we had a laugh at how Megan looks more like my mom than Allison and I do!

Emmy is very loved and got so many wonderful things! We are so grateful for our friends and family who have showered her with so much love!

Table Running

So my friend Mindy who was host at the baby shower made an awesome table runner from an idea she got off my blog! (See the original post on Ruffled for details on how to make it.)

I took a few close ups of it because it was so, so cool. I actually have it on my kitchen table right now as the runner and can’t imagine moving it!

And a really nice picture of it from Addie:

It really is a work of art! I just love it! Thank you, Mindy!!!!

Bumpdate 33 Weeks

How Far Along: 33 Weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 15 pounds as of my last appointment. We will see this week….

Gender: It’s a girl!

Movement: About the same – hiccups, loves to move at night and after I eat, and she has her feet up under my ribs at the end of the day!

Sleep: I slept seven straight hours Saturday night and it was glorious. For the first time I was so tired at the end of the day that I HAD to nap when I got home. We had a super busy weekend, so I don’t know if it was that or what.

Maternity Clothes: Still regular dresses (a size larger in most), maternity pants and a mix of regular and maternity tops. I wore a tank top today that felt like it was a smidge too short.

Symptoms: The infamous “pregnancy brain.” I had something else that wasn’t really a symptom that I was going to post but can’t remember…hence the pregnancy brain.

Aversions: Seafood. Odd since I normally love it. Also, I had Chuy’s Mexican a few weeks ago and it was delicious, but I got so swollen from the chips that the thought of eating Mexican at a restaurant grosses me out.

Cravings: Sweets. Sigh….

Best Moment this week: All the love from my friends and family at my wonderful baby shower this week! It was so, so fun!

Also, my sister came over and helped me organize her drawers and closet. I now feel so much better!

And I have to leave you with this really cute picture of my sweet nieces. I got them all matching dresses and look at how adorable they all are! Getting a photo of four babies – no easy task! :)

shower and bumpdate 009

It was so fun to have my sister-in-law in town from Nebraska and for her to be able to celebrate with us at the baby shower, too! Definitely a highlight of the week!

Emmy’s Babushka Baby Shower

Yesterday Emmy was thrown an amazing baby shower by my sweet friends. I didn’t put it together until we were taking pictures, but the hostesses were also my four bridesmaids in my wedding!

I was just in awe! They put so much work into it and it was just an amazing day. Emmy (and mommy) are very loved! I had friends and family in from as far away as Chicago, Houston and Louisiana! It was so fun to be able to celebrate with everyone.

Addie was so sweet and captured the day in some beautiful pictures. I am so grateful for her coming and her talent! I am lucky to have some very amazing friends!

So here are some of Addie’s beautiful pics. I did a print screen from my computer, so I apologize for the big white border around these. Addie’s photos are even more amazing in person!

The hostesses (and me in the middle)!Shower1

Every detail was beyond amazing!

Isn’t this “flower pot” cute? Those are little wash cloths for her! Ha! My coworker made the flowers on this and the next photo. They can also be worn in Emmy’s hair. (I wonder if she will have any…)

Instead of a game, they had a typewriter where the guest could type a note to Emmy.

This was beyond awesome – the girls had my mom and Tommy’s mom send pictures of us when we were kids to them. Mindy put together this table runner of our baby photos. I will have to take a close up for you guys, because it is amazing. I have it on my kitchen table now.

The food!

And the girls really catered to my cravings : )

We received so many wonderful things for the baby and even some of the gifts reflected the theme!

I could not have asked for a more perfect day! It was a beautiful shower and Emmy and I felt the love from all of our friends and family that attended. We love you guys!

Bumpdate 32 Weeks

How Far Along: 32 Weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 15 pounds. As you can see, baby is a-growin!

Gender: It’s a girl!

Movement: She loves it when I eat! (Imagine that?) Ha! One foot likes to hang out under my right rib.

Sleep: Sleep is the same. I am up at least once a night and am stiff when I wake up.

Maternity Clothes: I am slowly taking normal clothes out of my rotation. Today I wore another dress that I will definitely not be able to wear again until after she gets here.

Symptoms: My workouts are now the equivalent to sweatin’ with the oldies. In Zumba it is a pretty modified workout and my time on the elliptical is SLOOOOOOW. However, moving a little has to be better than nothing at all and I feel a lot better once I motivate myself to actually go. It is the getting there that is like pulling teeth.

Aversions: Fried food, alcohol, the smell of coffee, however, I have had a strange craving for it since it has been “cooler.” (Read – the 90s.)

Cravings: Still ice cream and fruit, especially watermelon. I had a hankering for sushi, but had chicken fried rice instead. Because that is basically the same.

Best Moment this week: I had several best moments this week – as always, hearing the baby’s heart beat, a reprieve in the weather and we made some progress in the room. We got our glider in, bought a lamp and my father-in-law and Tommy hung the curtain rod. My mom and are trying to dye the curtains to the exact shade of turquoise…so far notsomuch. But once that happens it will definitely be included in a “best moment” category!

Monthly Faves?

Since obviously my weekly faves are no longer happening, maybe I will move to monthly favorites.

Here is one thing I am loving today – next weekend’s forecast. Anyone want to place bets on it going up 10 degrees?

Okay, so weekly/monthly faves.

While this one doesn’t have a photo to go with it, my friend Stephanie posted a great tip on how to get the most out of your DSLR camera without worrying about it breaking.

I heart naptime posted a really, really cute shower idea this week – make baby a headband. Granted, mine would probably look like a craft project, but thought this would be a cute and fun activity for those who are not game lovers!

My friend Sarah of Life {Sweet} Life posted a link to these super cute FREE address labels from Daffodil Design. I love the colors!

I love “puppy chow” and I love rice krispie treats (though, I love puppy chow more), so look at this marriage from Cookies & Cups – puppy chow krispie treats. Um, yum.

As a former Flower Girl, I fell in love with this flower market birthday party featured on The Party Dress. I can totally see this as a future party for Emmy!

The Hostess with the Mostess featured this campfire cake on her blog and it honestly looks like something I could do. (Well, as long as I outsourced the fire cookie.)

I thought this idea was really clever – a place to buy/sell party supplies after the event is over.

A few of you have asked about Tommy’s uncle. He is still missing and there haven’t been any reports or sightings lately. Thanks for all of your prayers. I will continue to keep you posted.

Bumpdate 31 weeks

How Far Along: 31 weeks. How is it possible that I am in the single digits in weeks??

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Will see this week. I am sure it is growing by the day.

Gender: It’s a girl!

Movement: Hiccups still. I can tell she has her head on my lower left side based on that!

Sleep: Sleep is the same. I am super, super stiff when I get up to go to the restroom in the middle of the night. I can only imagine what getting older will be like!

Maternity Clothes: Normal dresses, some normal shirts, one pair of maternity shorts (get used to seeing those a lot!), and I now have four pairs of maternity pants/capris. Have yet to wear the pants, but plan to this week.

Symptoms: Not so much a symptom, but I mentioned in a previous post that my belly button is slowly disappearing. Not sure if it will become an outie or not.

Aversions: Fried food, alcohol, the smell of coffee grosses me out.

Cravings: Ice cream! It was soooo hot this past week that ice cream totally hit the spot. Also, really anything sweet. I see it, I want it. I also saw something with sushi the other day and was craving it, but didn’t indulge – mainly because I was too lazy to leave my house. Ha!

Best Moment this week: Oh my gosh. The room is totally coming together! I just love it so far! It is now painted, the focal wall is done, the dresser is painted and in the room and we have a crib. We still have a ways to go and lots of little details, but I love it so far.

I wasn’t going to share it until was all done, but my mom worked so hard on this focal wall and it looks amazing. So here is a sneak peek. I absolutely LOVE it.

bumpdate 31 weeks 006

This room has really been a family affair. My mom and mother-in-law painted, my brother-in-law put together the dresser, my mom painted it AND the focal wall, and Tommy (and I) put together the crib! So thanks to all of you guys for all of your help. I love you and am so appreciative.
