A Bedroom Project

Today my mom and I started working on a project for her guest bedroom, which then turned into a project for my master bedroom.

You guys remember when I got my big girl bed, right?

Well, I have been dying for some artwork for our room but haven’t really found anything I liked.  Enter my mom.

The other day she was at Ross and picked up these vinyl adhesives for her guest bedroom for $15. (I went to all of the Ross stores in Tulsa and they do not have anymore, but you can buy them off Amazon for $28 here.)

My mom got the inspiration for how to use these from Ballard Designs:

My mom went to Michael’s and had foam board cut exactly to the size of the vinyl.  That was a grand total of $8. If you look closely at the second picture below, we just took the foam board and painted the edges with Folk Art Italian Sage paint.

You obviously don’t have to be perfect:

Then we took the adhesive and just put them on to the foam board:

Then my mom, mother-in-law and sister-in-law were nice enough to hang them for us.

I really like how it turned out. We have decided to order another set and do 3 more on each side.  My interior designer (ahem, Tommy) think it needs a little more.

I do love how it turned out and thanks to my mom who let me highjack her project and use it as my own!  Love you!

I absolutely love that idea!! It looks great, and I do agree that three more on each side will look even better. Which guest room is your mom redoing? They all look great to me!! I desperately need to redo my guest room, but that is not a priority right now.

It looks awesome!! I love Ballard Design, but I can never pull the trigger to actually pay the eleventy-billion dollars for the "knot tied door stop". But I still lust over it all the time.

Love the application and it looks gorgeous over the bed! I agree with Tommy that 3 more on each side would balance out the length of the headboard. :)

Oh, Luke and I were walking in the galleria today and there was a sign for a movie and I SO thought of you. I didn't have my phone, otherwise I would have taken a pic of it and sent it to you.... it was a mouse in pirate garb and the title was "Puss in Boots".....of course I thought of Pudge in Boots!!!!!

It goes so well with all your colors!!! Great job girls. I can't wait to see it in person. I am on a mission for something over my bed as well. I wanted something similar but larger at Ballard Disigns but the price is just not right.

I have a few questions. Did someone at Michaels cut the foam board for your Mom? And, how did you hang them on the wall. I did a similar project recently with styrofoam and had a heck of a time finding something to put on the back to get it on the wall.

Hi Krista,

We did have Michael's just cut the foam board for us and then just bought double sided foam mounting tape from Michael's. This is similar to what we bought: http://www.officemax.com/office-supplies/tape-glue-adhesives/tape/mounting-tape-squares/product-ARS24450 Hope that helps! Good luck with your project!

Katie,
What department did you have cut the foamboard? Were the edges finished smooth? I'm trying this at home and cut foam board myself and couldn't get clean cuts on some sides so it's pretty rough. Would rather have Michael's cut, but the gals at my local store are sometimes challenged in knowing things.

Thanks,
Deb

Hi Deb, we had the framing department cut it and the edges are super smooth. I've cut foam board with a razor and it has to be so sharp. I also painted the sides of the foam board with our wall color so that when you looked from the side it isn't white. Hope that helps!

Love the artwork, I just ordered the vinyl squares from Amazon! Where did you get your bedding? I love the paisley and have been searching for something similar?

Hi Jennifer, I got the bedding at TJ Maxx last year around this time for only $50! Total steal!
