A life well lived

My post for yesterday was pre-scheduled, so this is a day late. But I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to honor my grandfather who passed away at 97 on Monday. (I can only hope to live that long with no major health issues.)

No matter how Paw Paw was feeling, sick or not, he was “Thankful.” And I am thankful to have been his granddaughter.

I have so many wonderful memories of him: playing War (the card game – totally NOT a tom boy), playing dominoes, playing with his old timey counting machine (which up until probably 2 years ago I thought was a cash register. As an aside, Paw Paw had owned a grocery store at one time, which might explain why I love small gourmet specialty food stores. Clearly, it is genetic.)  Paw Paw always time to actually be with us in the moment.

While I am sad for us here on earth, I know, without a doubt, that Paw Paw is happy in heaven.

And while I always think it is ridiculous when people post messages to their children on FB about how much they love them and how lucky they are to be their mom (assuming their child is an infant and too young to read), I have to say, Paw Paw, you will be missed.

  13. Hi, Katie,
Your post today made me cry because it is so sweet and true!! You and Allison were lucky to spend so much time with Paw Paw, and he always said you were "faithful" because you called him often! We will miss him immensely, but we know he is very happy in heaven - with Mimi, your dad, and, of course, our Lord and Savior!! I love you!! Have a safe trip.
    Love, Aunt Angie

  20. I'm sorry for your loss Katie. I know that no matter what the age, it is still hard to lose someone you love. I still had to smile at that first picture though, beads and a mimosa at 97! so fun!

  22. I'm sorry Katie to hear of the loss of your Grandpa. How fortunate to enjoy him into your adulthood. He looked like a gentle spirit in his photos. My Grandmother lived to be 93 and I still miss her. I'm sure Megan has many fond memories of her as well. Sending a Hug your way.

  23. I am so sorry to hear about your Paw paw. I love you Southern girls. When we go back west I want to adopt the terms Paw Paw and Meemaw. Grandma and Grandpa seem so boring now. He lived a long life.

I love all your flowers. Could you come arrange some for my house? It sounds like you have a beautiful yard full of flowers. we need pictures.
