Out & About

This weekend we got all dressed up and attended the Tulsa Habitat for Humanity fundraiser and gala. I have been on the Tulsa Habitat Board for about two years and have been on their gala committee for three.

My main task on the gala committee is to help with all of their print design. This year the theme was a cruise theme called Come Sail Away. I thought the invites turned out really cute!

I am very blessed to have friends and family who care enough about this cause that is close to my heart to come out and support me. I love you guys and it means a ton to me that you would be there!

Here are some pics of Megan, Addie and myself.

Tommy and I. Megan's mom thought Tommy's eyes looked scary...but you cannot expect miracles from an iPhone, right?
This year the decorations were really cute. Meryl of MC Occassions is on our committee and came up with these really clever arrangements on a budget. She was awesome at the details.

I have done several posts about Habitat, so if you are interested in learning more about it, just use the search bar.
Just a few things:
My dad helped start the Habitat for Humanity of Northwestern Louisiana in the 1980s and when he passed away my mom wanted to build a house in memory of him here in Tulsa (since then three houses have been built in his memory in both Shreveport and Tulsa). So that is how I started my involvement in the organization.
The amazing thing about Habitat is that they are not a hand out program. Each person in that program works so hard to get their house. They not only pay an interest free mortgage on it, but they do 500 hours of prework, which includes money management classes, working in the wood shop, working on another home owner's house and working on their own home. It is known as a hand-up, not a hand-out. These people want to make a difference for their children.
I could go on and on, so if you ever want more information just let me know. You can visit Tulsa Habitat's website here.

  6. That is a really awesome service that you do. I love that people work for themselves to get the home. I bet they take better care of it because they know what went in to building it. The invites are adorable.

  9. I LOVE that you work with Habitat! That's outstanding! I work heavily with the United Way and a couple other local orgs, but havent ever done anything with Habitat. Since I'm chairing our TU Young Alum, I was thinking of seeing they'd want to get a team together and help build/sponsor a house. Anyway, TBD, but what a GREAT cause!

And love the history for you and your family. A great legacy for your father, that's for sure.

You looked stunning and loving the invitations! :) Excellent job, girl!
