Baby Boy’s Room and His Name

We have finally finished baby boy’s room (minus putting his monitor up and his sound machine in the room), but it is pretty much marked off our “to-do” list!

I decided to keep the walls the same tan that they were and just paint a stripe on the wall and place his name in the middle. (And when I say “paint,” I totally mean my mom. Thanks, mom!)

So, his name, should we not change it between now and him being born, is Holden Thomas. There is no real significance to the first name except that we both liked it (which was a feat in and of itself) and no one else has a kid with the same name! Thomas is a family name that Tommy, his dad and grandfather all share.

So, as for the room…the bedding is bumperless and kind of hard to see in these pictures, but I was super pleased with how it turned out. I had it made locally by Spiffy Monkey. She also made the chair pillow, the changing pad covers, and skirt. I especially love the skirt because it is adjustable, so as I drop the crib, it can be moved up without issues!  The fabric on the top is a green and navy hexagon and the side is a chevron. I have another sheet that is reversed, so the hexagon is on the side and chevron on the top. My sister was nice enough to let me borrow her chair. Yay!

My friend Iris’ mother-in-law made this custom ABC print for me and I am in love with it! The lamp is from Target, the bookshelf was a raw wood one that my mom painted (thanks, mom!) and the bins are from Pottery Barn Kids.

My mom also repainted this piece of furniture that I have had since I was a child.  My friend Janie gifted me with the sweet Dream Big artwork that she purchased off Etsy and it goes perfectly in the room!

The vintage truck was my dad’s when he was little. I got the adorable fox print off a sale on Jane.com. I am obsessed with it!

These blackout curtains were an amazing bargain from Amazon. I paid $45 and they feel amazing, block the light and are really well made. I definitely recommend them!

My mom and I made this artwork that was going to hang above the bookcase, but they weren’t absolutely perfect, so my OCD didn’t allow me to have them be a focal point. Instead they are as you walk in the room and placed around here and there.

We just bought canvases and scrapbook paper, then I printed some silhouettes of animals online. Cut the silhouettes and scrapbook paper out together and then used modge podge to adhere them to the painted canvases. It was a simple enough project, but some of them bubbled a little and I knew it would bother me to look at them daily :). (I may have issues!)

Now, we can’t wait to welcome baby to his new room!

Also, I can’t thank my father-in-law enough for his help in this room – he and a friend put the very large piece of furniture together, screwed it and the bookshelf into the wall so that they wouldn’t topple, hung all my artwork and curtains and put the crib together! So, thank you, Bop! We love you!

  1. I love the baby's name, and the room looks fabulous. You are very talented, and you have some extremely talented and sweet family members. I love your dad's truck . . . I love everything about the room.
    Love, Aunt Angie
P.S. Noah's bed looks great, too, and I'm glad you girls have gotten good use from it. I'll have to share the pictures with Shannon.
