Quick Recap

Hi guys! I just got back late last night from Napa and have been running around like a crazy person all day. So, I will share some sneak peeks from my trip and promise a good post tomorrow night.

First, in exciting news -- I am going to have another nephew! Max is going to have a little brother. I am so excited to have two nieces (well, soon to be two nieces - Tori still has a few weeks to go) and two nephews. (And this will be the expression on his face once he fully understands he is going to have some competition ; )
Highlight of my trip: waking up to see this little pumpkin every morning. Isn't she just beautiful? I think she might be a baby supermodel someday. Most likely a short one...

Lovely scenery...
Loved this olive oil tasting room and shop.

Had lunch at the CIA. That would the Culinary Institute of America.

Just for the record - never wear heels while touring a winery, unless you never want to feel your feet again. Then go for it.

More later. XOXO!

Experts will share insider tips on making the holidays effortlessly festive and fun, presenting time-saving advice and step-by-step demonstrations.

All Pottery Barn stores nationwide.

All class participants will receive 10% off all items featured in the class.* (Not a bad deal!)

Thanks for the tip, Megan! I love experiential marketing and you know I love a good party. I am going to try to check this out on December 6th.

Friends Fave Things Part 2

My cousin, Jennifer, is the most loyal blog reader/commenter I have. (Next to you, Aunt Angie.) Well, she also has some really great things on her Christmas list that I must share with you all for your holiday gift giving season.

Remember when I said I would not mention all the books I loved because it would take up nine posts? Luckily, Jennifer brought them up. If you like a beach read no matter what season it is, you will love any book by Jen Lancaster. Start with this one, Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a condescending, ego maniacal, self-centered, smart ass or why you should never carry a Prada bag to the unemployment office.

I am always looking for a new show for Tommy and I to watch together, so I love Jennifer's suggestion of Entourage. For some reason, 4 primetime hours an evening of HGTV doesn't do it for him.

Also on Jennifer's wish list are these tall Ugg Boots. Love them! Do you think someone who is 5'0" could pull these off? (That would be me. Not Jennifer.)

Change of direction...I want to help you all shop for your inlaws. Specifically, the men in our lives. Are they not impossible? Since I am oh-so-creative, I am getting my 2 brother-in-laws and father-in-law they exact same thing - an instant marinater. I have no idea if this thing works, but it sounds pretty cool. Besides, I have always thought the whole "hours to marinate" thing is pretty ridiculous. Who plans their dinner that far in advance? (Clearly, not me. That could be why we have a meal-in-a-bag about 3 times a week...)

And for you Tulsans, if you have inlaws who have a long history in Tulsa, you might consider getting them copies of Jack Frank's documentaries. I am getting my father-in-law and Tommy's grandma copies of all the past films and this year's new film, Tulsa A to Z.

More gift ideas soon!

These are a few of my friend's favorite things!

Um, totally loving the comments with everyone's favorite things. So, I thought I would share some of my faves of their faves. Got that?

I have mentioned my friend Iris on here a few times. She has the best taste. She also wears headbands and watches Gossip Girl. Really, how could we not click? She shared some of her favorite things with me and I wanted to share with you all. And because Iris wasn't super specific, I have interpreted what I thought she would like. We are basically the same person. Only she is 11" taller.

Iris is a huge fan of all things white chocolate. Honestly, I am not a huge white chocolate fan myself, though, I do love my white chocolate mocha from Starbucks. However, I had the best peppermint bark the other day and could not leave you guys out in the cold. Go to Walgreens. Buy yourself some Ghiradelli Peppermint Bark. I swear you will not be disappointed. Bonus points if you melt it in your hot chocolate.

Another one of Iris' favorites was monogrammed anything, including jewelry. Have you guys visited the Vintage Pearl yet? OMG. She has the best stuff and she is located right her in Tulsa. I am apparently in her target market because I have seen her featured on The Pioneer Woman, 918 Moms and in the Tulsa World all in the past week.

Confession: I have an artificial tree. I am obsessed, though, with the smell of real ones. So, I would totally be in the market for Iris' favorite candle - Balsam from Bath and Body Works.
Iris also mentioned her Fontanini nativity scene. Each year she gets a new piece to add to her collection. I have honestly never heard of the brand, so I wanted to share. It is really pretty and delicate. I love how natural it is. I have the Willow Tree nativity scene, which I love. However, Tommy finds it scary that they don't have faces. I guess I should have consulted with Iris on what to buy first.

Lastly, as a scarf lover myself, I had to agree that it is definitely a favorite thing/must have this winter. I love this ruffly scarf that I came across on Cosmic Pluto Knits. Unfortunately, this is for someone a little craftier than myself. But I am sure I can find it in a lovely retail location near me....right?

Tomorrow I will bring you guys more of your favorite things. I am also going to have my sister write a special guest post on her favorite baby things for you all that will be coming soon, too. XOXO - Katie

These are a few of my favorite things

I am channeling my inner Oprah tonight. I am participating in 320 Sycamore's Favorite Things Blog Party. (Do you know how hard it is to come up with your favorite things? Well, it is really hard. Take my word for it.) I hope to bring you more of these type of posts over the holiday season. I just have to remember things I like. My cousin, Jennifer, also had this great idea, too. So, I have to give her a shout out.

Love, love, love my Starbucks mug. Actually, this one is Tommy's. Mine looks like the more traditional white paper one. However, since I think Starbucks is severely cutting back on their inventory you might have to settle for a holiday one year round. You know, the early bird gets the worm.
And, as an accompaniment, you must try Coffee-Mates full line of seasonal flavors. As a special treat, here is a dollar off coupon.

I love Harry and David's Coffee. (I thought about doing a whole morning favorite things post, but I am just not that into mornings so this is as far as I got.) Right outside of Dallas they have an outlet store and we usually get a bag or two. My mother in law LOVES the Tiramisu Coffee, which they also have in decaf.

Have I told you guys I now am the proud owner of two headbands? Iris gave me one this weekend. I am sooo Blair Waldorf. Only nice. And not that young.

I could not have a Favorite Things post without mentioning paper products. You know I am obsessed. I won these a few months ago from Polka Dot Design and I love them.

This is going to be the only book I feature today because I could fill 9 blog posts with my book favorites. But I heart the Shopaholic series. Maybe one day I will start a book club. Or not. I am probably the only person who has only two genres that they read: Chick Lit and Business Books. I also have a freaky obsession with magazines. I subscribe to 8 of them, but these are my two favorites:

And since I am a 30 year old living in a 16 year old's body, I could not post my favorite things without Gossip Girl. There is nothing like catching up with the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite.

This goes without saying:
And a great family series is Dexter. Well, only if your family is made up of entirely adults.

Let me know your favorite things. You know I need all the help I can get to bring you content. I will post more soon. XOXO - Katie

Shopping Genie

Have I told you guys I am already about half way through shopping for Christmas? I know. Over achiever. I still need to get Tommy that Snuggie, though. Even though I sound overly ambitious, I actually never left the house. I just kept Jeff Bezos in business for awhile longer.

I will be posting some fun Christmas ideas soon, but until then I thought I would help you guys do some research. Both Target and Gifts.com have some really great tools to find the perfect gift for those hard to buy for people in your life (like your brother -in-law).

Target has a gift finder where you can choose by guy or girl, age group and then it breaks it down by interest.

Gifts.com is really fun and has gifts in a millions (okay, so 13) of catergories. And in case you get confused there are cute little icons to put you back on track.

In a Perfect World

How is it possible that I didn't think to create Cupcake Cookies? This might be the world's most perfect treat - my two favorite desserts combined in one snack. Utter brilliance. I will be rushing to Pier 1 tomorrow. (You didn't think I would actually make these, right?) Better yet, these treats are on clearance for $1.68.

Dear Cupcake Cookies,

Please don't disappoint me.

Hugs and Kisses, Katie

You know my obsession with miniatures....

Well, I also have a love for all things over sized. Well, imagine to my delight when my Food Network Magazine had an entire feature on all things giant.

As a huge Gummy Bear lover, I truly appreciate these Giant Gummy Bears from Vat 19 (really cool website, too). This World's Giant Gummy Bear is the equivalent to 1,400 normal Gummy's and packs a whopping 12,000 calories. Ouch.

If you still want to get your giant Gummy on a diet (and a budget), you can still amuse all of your friends with this 4" Gummy Bear on a stick. It is equivalent to 88 Gummys. So, much better for your waistline.

Can you imagine how impressed your friends would be with your homemade Rice Krispie Treats this year?
Thanks to NetFoodie for this photo. They also have a great review on the candy, too.

FoodBeast provided us with this great comparison of the giant Cheeto. I think I am in love.

Let me know if you guys have any other fun mini or giant finds. I am all over it.

Flowers Uncut

There is this new TLC Show on, Flowers Uncut. I am not sure if you guys have caught it yet, but I have been wondering for years (okay, since the dawn of reality TV) why there was not a reality floral show. The floral designer is Jeff Leatham, designer to the stars, and the show follows him on his "introduction" to New York City. Apparently, he has been designing in Europe and is now in the US to take over the Big Apple.

I like the premise of the show (poor Jeff is a little stiff when it comes to the on-camera interviews, but then again, he is a florist, not an actor) and his work is absolutely incredible. First, I wish when I did flowers I had this kind of budget. Second, I would LOVE to work with him for a day. Here are some pics:

These first two are from Eva Longoria's wedding. Wow. (Image credit Jeff Leatham via Be Imbued.)

These are some of the designs on TLC's site. The floating flowers are absolutely stunning. (Photo Credit: Heather Swanson DCL)

Can you imagine the budget for these? I was stressed over tiny weddings we did...I can only imagine how stressful this is to coordinate.

You can catch the show on TLC and I honestly cannot tell you what time it is on...I tried to look up the schedule here. Can anyone make out a regular time for the show? I guess just set your Tivo!

This may just become a cupcake blog

I am all about doable craft projects. Because when it comes right down to it, I am not crafty. Like at all. Basically, I need someone to do the hard work for me, I add a few little easy details and there you go - a work of art.

Last month I posted about Sugar Robot, where you can get really cute toppers for your cupcakes. I am trying to be holiday themed with this post, but I figure who doesn't need a few martinis around the holidays? I'll take 2.

These leaves - totally edible.
Did you guys know there was such a think as cupcake stencils? Me either. My sister and I picked these Wilton Stencils up yesterday at Hobby Lobby. I think I can do that. Looks simple enought.

And ones for Christmas.
Also, if you are a Crate Barrel fan (like myself) they also sell these. How am I just finding out about these now?? It might have something to do with the fact I don't bake. But that is just a guess.

Whoooo wants a cupcake?

I couldn't help but use the title. I know. I am a nerd. Honestly, though, is this not absolutely adorable? I follow Blue Cupcake by Julie's blog and everything she does is nothing short of amazing. Bearded Lady, check out her circus cupcakes. The details are amazing!

More Thanksgiving Fun

I love, love, love when I get ideas from you guys. My cousin, Jennifer, sent me some fun Thanksgiving ideas that I had to share. I especially love these because I know they are so kid friendly....which means I can do them.

All of these ideas can be found on Disney's Family Fun website, along with recipes and instructions. Really, this whole website is great for those of you with kids (or need to do more simple crafts like me).

Look at these little pilgrim hats! They are just chocolate covered marshmallows sitting on the same cookies that the witch's hats were made from.

Ha - another Thanksgiving dinner cupcake! (Would you ever guess these were so popular??)
White chocolate dipped ice cream cone teepees.

An easy no cook, bake or refrigerate option.

I always love a good excuse for a nutter butter.

Okay...now I cannot decide if this is cute or creepy. Cute on paper for sure...cute on a pie...not quite there yet.I am going to give you guys a direct link to this one. It looks a little more complicated, but can you imagine how many people you would impress?

These are donut hole acorns, you guys. I just looked up the directions and they are super simple: chocolate frosting, donut holes, toffee and a pretzel. I think I need to make these.

I think paper printables are a great idea for those little ones at your table this holiday. There are tons of games, coloring pages and more that you can download and print.

And get even more placecard printables.

I cannot wait to see all of your Thanksgiving tablescapes! We are still working ours out. (i.e. We have no idea what we are doing.)
